This series, optimistically titled YOUR PHOTOGRAPH OF THE WEEK, was inspired by a good photographer-friend in Los Angeles: Joel Mark. Joel sends out a similar weekly photograph with (I presume to say…) the simple objective of keeping in touch with friends, clients, associates, and those with a curious interest in good photography. I was of course on Joel’s list and appreciated seeing what he was up to photographically. “I should do that.” I said to myself often…and by-and-by I jumped into the deep end.

The images I am sharing are by-and-large current work, some evolving within long-running projects such as my ROTHKO SERIES…Rothko-esque compositions of the hulls of container ships in the Port of Savannah: gut reactions to the color-blocking of the moment. But as you see here in a monochromatic format.

For me, black-and-white epitomizes the structure of nature and brings focus to and embodies the essence of detail. Black and white removes the prejudice of color.

I expect to see my monochromatic interpretation continue for a good while…but, you never know, it was the serendipity of surprise à la the Poincaré method, that brought me to this point; stay tuned for more.
