YEAR EIGHT

ARTFIELDS 2020 IS CANCELED

The ArtFields Collective is actively monitoring the progression of the coronavirus pandemic. In light of this global outbreak, the ArtFields Collective has announced its decesion to cancel the 2020 event.

The safety of ArtFields’ guests and participants is always our number one priority. We believe it is our responsibility to ensure that our events do not contribute to the spread of the pandemic. With careful consideration and guidance from CDC, DHEC, and MUSC, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the competition and exhibition, previously set for April 24 – May 2.

ArtFields started in 2013 with a simple goal: honor the artists of the Southeast with a week’s worth of celebration and competition in the heart of a traditional Southern small town.

ArtFields will award over $145,000 in prize money during the April 24 – May 2, 2020 art competition and festival in Lake City, South Carolina. Accepted artists are invited to exhibit their work in one of the historic downtown Lake City venues for nine days. Venues include everything from a former mercantile to an historic barbershop. The nontraditional settings make for an unforgettable experience. Winners are determined by popular choice and juried panel. Cast your vote by joining us in Lake City!

I am proud and humbled to have exhibited in ArtFields in years past along side so many magnificant Southern artists.

LOW COUNTRY COLOR

The low country, once known for its slave-based agricultural wealth in rice–white, and indigo dye–a rich color between blue and violet: its marsh views are emblematic of a cool and often striking palette. The low country’s colors, as opposed to black and white (which epitomize structure), personify its nature, and, on close inspection, can conjure up, as if as by magic, the hot subtropical climate.
